Where to go in Asia

Japan

Japan’s culture is distinctive thanks to the way in which it brings together the futuristic and the traditional. The extraordinary bustle of a city like Tokyo, with bullet trains, skyscrapers and neon signs feels a million miles away from the tranquil air of the mountains or peace of a rural Buddhist temple.

This makes Japan a country with almost-universal appeal. Whatever it is you look for from a holiday, Japan can provide it, from incredible food and amazing shops to wellness opportunities and phenomenal cultural experiences.

Whatever you’re looking for from your trip to Japan, the Escapes by BFP team of advisors can help you plan the ultimate holiday to this unique country. Visit geisha in Kyoto, discover the future in Tokyo or breathe in the clean mountain air in the Japanese Alps.

Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan is an undiscovered treasure of Asia. It’s not an especially popular destination, which makes it an absolute gem for the discerning traveller to explore. Influenced by many of the ancient world’s most glorious civilizations, Kazakhstan has a distinguished history. Huge swathes of the country are beautiful forests, with mountains and cool, clear lakes scattered throughout. If you’re looking for somewhere peaceful, beautiful and unspoilt, the forests of Northern Kazakhstan are the place for you.

For those looking for more bustle, the ancient city of Almaty rests on the path of the Silk Road and is a wonderful base from which to explore this piece of Asian history. If you’d like to discover the wonders of Kazakhstan, the Escapes by BFP team can help you plan an unforgettable adventure.

There are certain times when visits to Asia are particularly popular, for example, during cherry blossom season in the spring. However, the wonderful range of things to do in Asia makes this a year-round destination. Whether you want to crunch across thick snow in the wintertime or bask in summer sun, Asia has places to do exactly that.

Its rich array of cultural activities is available year round, but there are many festivals, particularly in Japan, which visitors should be mindful of when deciding when to explore this beautiful country. The summer months are lovely in the countryside but can be very hot and humid in the cities, so this is something to be aware of when planning a visit.

Best time of year to visit Asia

December to February

The weather is cold, dry and often snowy in Asia at this time, particularly in rural areas. There are lots of fantastic winter activities to do in Japan in winter, including spending time out on the slopes skiing before warming up in a hot tub.
Kazakhstan is extremely cold in winter, but incredibly beautiful if what you’re looking for is snow, ice, and opportunities for some fantastic winter sports.

March to May

March and April are peak cherry blossom season in Japan and throughout much of central Asia, making this a particularly popular time to visit. The delicate blooms are well worth the hype, but we recommend finding a place to enjoy them off the beaten track to avoid the huge crowds which flock to busy parks.
May is a lovely month, with the weather beginning to warm up in earnest, although there is a chance of rain in some areas. The first week of May is Golden Week in Japan, a national holiday and very busy time for domestic travel.

June to August

This is the warmest time of year in Kazakhstan and thus one of the best times to explore the countryside. Enjoy a dip in a beautiful mountain lake to cool off after hiking through the woods. Temperatures in the cities can be unpleasantly hot though, approaching 40 degrees at times, so this is something to bear in mind when planning your trip.
This time of year is hot and humid across much of Japan, but heavy rainfall means many gardens are at their most green and beautiful.

September to November

Autumn sees cooler weather and some stunning displays of colour across much of central Asia. This is a fantastic time to visit as the rainy season has ended and with it the humid weather, leaving sunny but cooler days moving towards late autumn.
The countryside of Kazakhstan is spectacular in the autumn before the first snows fall, and it’s also a great time to explore the cities when the sweltering heat of summer has died away.

There are some fabulous places to stay across Asia, and whether you’re looking for a futuristic hi-tech hotel in Tokyo or a lodge in rural Kazakhstan, the Escapes by BFP will find the perfect place for you.

If you’re looking for luxury, it doesn’t get much more luxurious than Japan. Hotels of breathtaking opulence can be found peppered throughout both the cities and the countryside, but there’s also the option of choosing a simpler way of living and opting to go on retreat to a temple or wellness resort.

Whatever you’re looking for from your Asian adventure, the Escapes by BFP team can provide, and also source the perfect base from which you can explore this incredible continent.
