The weather is hot in the Caribbean all year round, and the rainy season, which runs from July to November, is characterised by short bursts of heavy rain followed by glorious sunshine, rather than persistent rainfall. June to November is when the Caribbean is at risk of hurricanes and tropical storms, making this a less popular time of year for visitors to many of the islands.
February to May marks the driest time of year, and this is when many people choose to visit the Caribbean. Many of the islands also host festivals and events at this time of year, popular with both visitors and locals.
Christmas is a very popular time in the Caribbean, so it’s important to book well in advance to avoid disappointment at this time of year. Many of the islands, particularly the ones with a strong party vibe, host fantastic New Year’s Eve celebrations.
January and February are both hot and dry, making this a great destination if you’re looking for some winter sun.
The weather continues to be dry in March, and this is a wonderful time to visit if you want to trek in the incredible jungle spaces which stretch across many of the Caribbean islands. Lots of the islands host special events around Easter, and these are great fun to join, especially the annual carnival in Trinidad which takes place shortly before Easter. By late April and May, the weather is beginning to get wetter but the heavy rain is yet to start, making this a good time to visit as there will be fewer tourists than in peak season.
This is the wettest time of year in the Caribbean, but showers tend to be short and sharp and followed by sunshine rather than lingering through the day. Tropical storms are at their most common this time of year, and there is a possibility of hurricanes, but they’re rare. It’s a good time of year to see turtles coming onto the beaches in Antigua.
The rainy season continues through September and October, with a small risk of tropical storms or hurricanes, but this is a great time to see the islands in all their lush, green glory. It’s also a much less popular time of year with tourists meaning you can enjoy a quieter, more authentic experience of the Caribbean.
By November, the tropical flowers are at their most beautiful thanks to the recent rainfall, and it’s a fantastic time of year to explore the islands’ incredible flora and fauna.
