The best time of year to go skiing depends entirely on where you’re looking to go, with some spots enjoying optimal levels of snowfall at different times of the year. The trickiest time to find good snow is May, when the snow is melting or already gone across the Northern Hemisphere but yet to arrive across much of the Southern.
However, there are so many wonderful places in the world to ski in that it is almost a year-round holiday option. We can point you towards the very best times to go skiing round the world to ensure you have a fantastic holiday and access to the very best snow.
This is peak season for winter sports across the Northern Hemisphere. Heavy snow makes this a fantastic time to ski throughout Europe and North America, and if you’re dreaming of a white Christmas, countries like Switzerland, Canada and the Northern states of the USA won’t disappoint. This is also a wonderful time to see the Northern Lights, as the long, dark nights make it much easier to spot lighting up the sky overhead.
March and April see longer days creeping across the Northern Hemisphere and snow will begin to vanish on low ground, but the mountains still enjoy relatively frequent snowfalls and there’s lots of great skiing to be enjoyed. The Northern Lights become trickier to spot as the nights become shorter, but apres-ski opportunities continue in abundance.
This is when the Southern Hemisphere comes into its own, with lots of fantastic opportunities for winter sports, particularly in New Zealand. This is a particularly beautiful place to ski, with endless snowy plains, magnificent mountain ranges and beautiful frozen lakes peppering the wintery landscape across the higher ground.
September sees some beautiful snow still across the bottom of the Southern Hemisphere, and by October and November, lots of the colder regions of the Northern Hemisphere will have experienced their first snowfall as well. This is a great time to enjoy some fantastic skiing opportunities and to enjoy the very best of winter sports.
Skiing hotels are some of the most glamorous and luxurious in the world, with amazing amenities including rejuvenating thermal spas, boutique cabins with glass roofs to better enjoy the Northern Lights, exclusive bars and phenomenal restaurants.
Our team of travel experts have visited the very best ski hotels in the world and are on hand to advise you on the ultimate destinations for your dream luxury skiing holiday. Whether you’re looking for a cosy log cabin, a chalet with your own private chef or an elegant hotel with every amenity, we can find the perfect place to stay for you, with everything you’re looking for.
